  • List and description of common absolute contraindications for manual therapies in equine and small animal practice
    • What to look for and what questions to ask
    • Infectious, contagious, zoonotic, and reportable diseases
    • How to develop a referral network and effective animal care team
  • List and description of relative contraindications for manual therapies in equine and small animal practice
    • Acute inflammation, tissue trauma, and infections
    • Neurologic disorders – acute, chronic, and progressive
  • Issues that may get confused with treatment contraindications
    • Veterinary oversight, scope of practice, and licensure
    • Concurrent procedures, sedation, and medications
    • Antidoping considerations and treatment during active competition

I am an Associate Professor at the Orthopaedic Research Center at Colorado State University with research interests in the objective assessment of musculoskeletal pain, spinal dysfunction and the application of chiropractic, acupuncture, and rehabilitation of horses.

I am a charter diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and am currently a course instructor for the Equine Rehabilitation Certification course at the University of Tennessee.
